Fractals

Many melodies share a peculiar mathematical characteristic: The probability of getting a certain interval change is invertedly proportional to the size of the interval. This means that jumps of one tone occur twice as often as jumps of two tones, and three times as often as jumps of three tones. Check this with some melodies yourself to see if this seems right! (Even though this will not always be the case, it seems to be an important characteristic of melodies.) Many melodies may be described as self-similar or fractal.

The fractal generator produces random melodies that follow this rule.
